Herein, a novel copper-containing Fe3O4@Gelatin (Fe3O4@Gelatin-Cu) material is prepared, characterized and its catalytic activity is studied. Fe3O4@Gelatin-Cu was prepared through coating of natural gelatin polymer on magnetic Fe3O4 NPs followed by treatment with a copper salt. The characterization of Fe3O4@Gelatin-Cu was achieved using FT-IR, VSM, SEM, TGA, and EDX analyses. The Fe3O4@Gelatin-Cu was employed as a powerful nanocatalyst in the preparation of hexahydroquinolines under green conditions. The high yield of the desired products and good recoverability, reusability and stability of the Fe3O4@Gelatin-Cu nanocatalyst are the main advantages of this study. The combined properties of gelatin, magnetic nature and supported copper catalyst make Fe3O4@Gelatin-Cu a valuable material in the catalytic world.
